"Joining multiple startups after years as a benefits consultant was a real eye-opener. I realized that what I once considered normal was anything but. The system is intentionally complex, making it nearly impossible for most people to decipher what they’re paying for and who’s getting their money. It’s like someone else filled my shopping cart, wrapped it in brown paper, taped it shut, and handed me the bill—only for that bill to increase by 4%, 5%, 8%, or more every year! And when I finally unwrap it, I find items locked in packaging that requires tools I don’t have, making them nearly useless. That’s the reality of benefits today.
I founded ClearShift to put an end to this madness. My goal is to bring true transparency, affordability, and usability to employee benefits, ensuring employers and employees alike get real value—without the hidden costs and confusion."
Sharon Cunninghis brings over 30 years of experience in health and benefits, with a strong track record of helping clients break free from the status quo. As the former U.S. Health Leader for a major multinational benefits consultancy and a Chief Growth Officer for startups, she has gained firsthand insight into the entrenched and restrictive nature of the existing benefits ecosystem—along with the mounting frustration over skyrocketing costs and the lack of sustainable solutions.
Sharon is a recognized expert in benefits strategy, product development, and business transformation. Throughout her career, she has pioneered innovative approaches to drive meaningful change that positively impacted the quality of benefits and care received by millions of employees and their families. She hopes to continue that work through ClearShift.
Sharon holds a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), and a member of Women’s Business Leaders of the U.S. Healthcare Industry (WBL). She has been recognized as a Top 25 Consultant by Consulting Magazine and honored by Employee Benefits News for her contributions to the future of healthcare.
